Lagniappe Academies of New Orleans

Why send your child to Lagniappe Academies?

Lagniappe Academies holds itself to the highest standards of excellence. Expectations are high not only for students, parents, and school personnel, but also for the quality of instruction and programming we provide. In order to set and maintain these standards, the school will develop slowly and thoughtfully.

PROVEN Academic Curriculum Model
Coming from Amistad Academy, one of the most successful charter schools in the nation, we have developed and adopted one of the most demanding college preparatory curriculums to serve the students of the New Orleans. We combine this with high quality instruction and our cutting-edge positive education.

Enrichment Program
All students are required to participate in an onsite Enrichment program from 4:00-5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. Classes in this program include: visual arts, theater, dance, sports, and Treme culture.

Data Driven Approach
Our Summer Academy allows our teachers to assess every student before the school year starts. We then refine our curriculum to address the individual learning profiles of every student. Students are assessed every 6 weeks to monitor growth.

A commitment to Parent Involvement
Teachers and/or the school contacts parents weekly for updates on their child. Additionally, we encourage all parents to dedicate at least 8 hours during the school year to work with the school and their child. Involvement can be include: monitoring recess, attending a fundraiser, making food for potlucks, and other school activities, helping with an enrichment course, or assisting a teacher with a project. We have a full-time Parent Outreach Coordinator that helps facilitate parent involvement.

Teachers Always Available
All teachers are provided with cell phones and computers. Teachers are available after school hours to provide support for students as needed.

Small Class Sizes and Low Student-to-Teacher Ratio
We pride ourselves in the fact that our 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio is one of the smallest of any open-enrollment school in New Orleans.

Motivated, Dedicated, & Supported Teachers
We believe that well-supported teachers give children their best efforts. All teachers have two planning periods to ensure that they are prepared and energized for every class. We use data to determine how to support our teachers. Teachers also receive merit-based pay for their hard work and strong academic gains.

Strong Focus on Reading
Our students spend almost twice as much time on reading than any other subject. All students enjoy a reading block strictly designed to build on their love of reading. The second block teaches specific reading strategies.

Your Family, Our Community
When a student enrolls at Lagniappe, the whole family becomes a part of a community of dedicated teachers, staff, parents, and volunteers working together to ensure student success. We also have several partnerships with counseling and social service providers that support our students and parents.

High Behavior Expectations
Our goal is to educate. We are committed to working with every student and family to support our students’ behavioral needs. We hold each student accountable for meeting our high standards for behavior. Our discipline policy is designed to proactively educate and equip our students to make good decisions.
